  • Different diameters and types of rock reamer hole openers have varying requirements for drill pressure. Most reaming accidents in rock layers are caused by excessive drill pressure due to the over-pursuit of reaming speed.


  • The rotational speed is another crucial control parameter for rock reaming construction. The rotational speed mentioned here refers to the speed at which the drilling rig drives the drill rod to rotate the reamer, which primarily depends on the hardness of the rock. For soft rock reaming, when the reamer diameter is ≤30", the recommended rotational speed should not exceed 60 Rpm; when the reamer diameter is greater than 30", the recommended rotational speed should not exceed 40 Rpm.


  • An important principle for rock reaming operation is: the harder the rock that needs to be fractured, the greater the required drill pressure and the lower the required drill speed. It should also be noted that under the same drilling speed conditions, reamers of different diameters produce different effects; the larger the diameter of the reamer, the greater the linear speed at the outer edge, and the more severe the wear.


  • Ensuring the pump rate of the slurry is also crucial during rock reaming. The main role of the slurry at this time is to cool the reamer and carry the drill cuttings. The actual pump rate of the slurry should be determined after calculating the amount of drill cuttings produced at each reaming stage and the carrying capacity of the slurry. Generally, it should not be less than 1m/min.


  • Method for rock reaming construction: When the rock reamer hole openers transitions from soft soil to rock layer or from soft rock to hard rock, the key point is to first slow down the reaming speed and reduce the drill pressure. Only after the body of the reamer completely enters the rock or hard rock layer can the drill pressure be increased. If too much drill pressure is applied in this process, it can easily cause the drill to jam, thereby damaging the reamer or at least shortening the life of the reamer bearings.


  • When performing staged reaming, be careful not to choose rock reamer hole openers with too similar diameters for staged reaming. Otherwise, on one hand, it will not bring out the intended reaming effect of the reamer, and on the other, reamers with diameters that are too similar can easily get stuck in the rock layer during operation.
